Defensive Driving

At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

  1. Understand driving errors that could lead to road accidents
  2. Improve in overall level of driving confidence
  3. Able to plan ahead
  4. Demonstrate an ability of car control with needed skill to deal in emergency situation

Theory Session (Contents)

  1. Defensive Driving Principles – drive defensively to avoid getting yourself involved in unnecessary trouble/road accident
  2. Accidents and Death statistic – analyse passed road accidents; discuss the causes of road accidents; awareness for participants to know the country road accidents situation
  3. Attitudes and Behaviours – discuss the good and bad attitudes of driver; change of behaviours under influence of drugs
  4. Types of Collisions – to understand three different types of collisions and the effect of collision
  5. Today Vehicle Technologies – SRS airbag; ABS – anti locke; traction control
  6. SIPDA (Search, Identify, Predict, Decide, Action) – observation, Planning, (Search, Identify, Predict, Decide, Action)
  7. Road Sign and Shapes – ; road signs and shapes; different types of road sings and shapes give us clear road information ahead; understanding the meaning of road signs and shapes are important
  8. Pull Push steering – one of the most widely uses steering technique in the world today that allow us to drive safely, accurately, confidently and comfortably
  9. Hazards – anything which is potentially dangerous
  10. System of vehicle control – the system of car control is a way of negotiating hazards that is methodical, safe, leave no chance; give you essential time to react
  11. Reaction and following distance – human reaction time; understand the need of correct following distance
  12. Skid Control (Optional) – understand different type of skid; causes, effect and correction of skid
  13. Emergency Braking Accident Avoidance – learn how to deal with emergency braking accident avoidance
  14. Basic Vehicle Maintenance (Power checklist) – identify items to check regularly in a vehicle

Practical Session (contents)

  1. Basic vehicle maintenance checking system – practical checking in systematic way
  2. Starting Procedures – 4 points check
  3. Sitting Position – correct sitting position already covers 60% of your driving
  4. Slalom Driving – drive through a set of cones, to practice for pull-push steering technique and understanding vehicle weight transfer and accelerator control
  5. Emergency Braking Accident Avoidance – learn and experience an emergency braking accident avoidance in a safe and controlled environment
  6. Skids Control (Optional) – practise and understand the causes, effects and correction of skid
