‘In May 2003, Simon and Lisa Thomas left their UK home on their BMW motorbikes to embark on a journey around the globe. Their aim? To circumnavigate our planet, riding all seven continents, set 4 Guinness Endurance World Records, raise money for 3 charities and fulfill a lifelong dream.
To date, this husband and wife team have set new standards in the world of extreme motorcyle endurance travel. They have ridden 350,209 Kilometres through 73 countries of their planned 122, from the most northerly and southerly points on earth possible by motorcycle. They have navigated their way through some of the World’s most inhospitable regions whilst coping with the diversity of extreme weather climates. Experiencing subzero temperatures when they reached Nordkapp, Norway within the Arctic Circle, and 160,000 Kilometres later when they reached Ushuaia on the southerly tip of South America.
‘Highlights’ include surviving severe water crisis in Africa, enduring several bouts of Malaria, and Simon suffering a near-fatal accident deep in the Amazon Rain Forest. He and his BMW R1150GS fell headlong from a rotting bridge.
After repairing his badly damaged motorcycle and riding the most painful and grueling 23-days of his life, Simon reached medical assistance and a surprising diagnosis. A broken neck! Following emergency surgery Simon has gone onto a full recovery. These are just some of the challenges they have faced and continue to overcome.
As their adventure continues the couple are using their project as a catalyst to raise urgently needed funds and awareness for 3 specific charitable organizations performing crucial work and in real need of support. Money raised via company donations and through their popular web site goes directly to World Water Aid, The British Heart Foundation and CancerBACUP, who all perform work which impacts lives directly in their own country and around the World.
Today their travels find them in Malaysia, where they hope to find support and sponsorship in order to keep their dream alive and their charities funded.
“This journey so far has presented to us, both boundless and unimaginable opportunities but also in equal measure dangers and pitfalls! Ultimately our base-plan is to make it round the World together whilst raising as much money as possible for our chosen charities and earning our-place in the Guinness Book of Records”. Simon Thomas
Many thanks
Simon & Lisa Thomas’
